Busan citizens join opening-day screening of OK! Madam: Bon Voyage

The Korean Film Council (Chairperson Han Sang-jun, "KOFIC"), the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister Chae Hwi-young), and the Korea Copyright Commission (Chairperson Kang Seok-won, "the Copyright Commission") successfully held the "A Day of Copyright Culture with Film" screening of OK! Madam: Bon Voyage on Wednesday, August 12, at the Busan Cinema Center in Haeundae-gu, Busan.

The event was a joint initiative linking KOFIC's ongoing policy to "revitalize Korean film and expand community access to cultural enjoyment" with the Copyright Commission's "campaign to promote proper copyright culture." About 300 people participated, including local residents invited in cooperation with the Busan Metropolitan City Social Contribution Information Center and the Haeundae General Social Welfare Center, along with staff, employees, and family members of the Centum District ESG council "Eu-sseuk (ESG)."

Ahead of the screening, citizen participation programs were held in the lobby of the Busan Cinema Center, including information sessions on KOFIC's film support programs, an O/X quiz and a copyright-themed spinning wheel game to raise copyright awareness, a consultation booth on copyright protection, and a free photo booth. Inside the theater, a quiz event was also held to build interest in both the film and copyright education.

The film screened that day, OK! Madam: Bon Voyage (dir. Lee Cheol-ha), was backed by the Fund of Funds Film Account and selected for KOFIC's 2023 Next-Project Planning and Development Support Program; its predecessor, Okay! Madam, had likewise received support through the same program. The screening carried added significance in that OK! Madam: Bon Voyage — completed with KOFIC support dating back to its planning stage — was viewed together with local citizens on the very day of its theatrical release.

Chairperson Han Sang-jun said, "We hope this event, jointly prepared by the Korean Film Council and the Korea Copyright Commission, gave citizens a chance to make happy memories at the movies and to reflect on the value of creative work." He added, "We will continue to strengthen support for fresh, outstanding Korean films, while working continuously to build a viewing environment where everyone can enjoy film culture without discrimination."

Meanwhile, KOFIC plans to continue its social contribution activities to expand film-viewing opportunities for communities in cultural blind spots, while pursuing wide-ranging support for the competitiveness of Korean film — from the planning and development stage through distribution and exhibition.
