PARK Sung-woong and LEE Tae-im Co-Star

Late last month, distributor NEW (Next Entertainment World) announced that production would begin on their new action noir For the Emperor (translated title) early this month. The film stars LEE Min-ki, PARK Sung-woong and LEE Tae-im and will mark the second directorial outing for PARK Sang-joon, who debuted back in 2007 with Bank Attack.

LEE Min-ki will play disgraced baseball pro LEE Hwan. Following his implication in a match-fixing scandal, the star finds himself working for a gang boss (PARK Sung-woong) while also falling under the charm of a bar owner played by LEE Tae-im.

Following the hit Very Ordinary Couple earlier this year, in which he starred alongside KIM Min-hee, LEE has been in active demand with another two projects already wrapped and awaiting release. One is Monster with rising star KIM Ko-eun (Eungyo) while the other is the big budget mountaineering film Himalaya alongside KIM Myung-min.

Opus Pictures, also behind The Man From Nowhere (2010) and this year’s Snowpiercer, will produce the film. NEW is capping a banner year, marked with the successes of thrillers such as New World, Montage, Cold Eyes and Hide and Seek.
