20th Century Fox Pic Stars RYOO Seung-bum and GO Joon-hee

Director IM Sang-soo began shooting My Friendly Villains, his eighth film, at the end of last month. Featuring stars RYOO Seung-bum and GO Joon-hee, the high concept thriller is being financed and distributed by Fox International Pictures (FIP), the global filmmaking division of 20th Century Fox. The film will focus on a man and woman who decide to mete out revenge on corrupt corporations when they discover a bag of money at a crash site.

Charismatic actor RYOO, star of Bloody Tie (2006) and The Unjust (2010), returns to screens following a brief hiatus after appearing in The Berlin File, directed by his brother RYOO Seung-wan. The active GO has featured in many films (Architecture 101, 2012) and TV shows (The Chaser, 2012) but takes on her first major leading role here. Starring alongside them will be Manshin and Whistle Blower star RYU Hyun-kyung and up-and-coming Ghanaian actor Samuel Okyere.

Director IM’s last two films, The Housemaid (2010) and The Taste of Money (2012) were both invited to the Cannes Film Festival. IM and FIP have been looking for the right project for some time and were initially going to bring a Korean adaptation of Sleeping with the Enemy (1991) to the big screen before selecting My Friendly Villains, which was originally known as For Us There Is No Today and was going to star CHO Seung-woo and KIM Hyo-jin, before KIM was forced to drop out due to pregnancy.

Shooting is ongoing and the film is expected to hit theaters next year.
