First Service of Its Kind in Korea

Citing the noticeable lack of representation for screenwriters in one of the world’s most developed film industries, international sales outfit Finest has announced its plans to launch a management agency for writers in Korea later this month.

The Writers Agency of Finecut (WAF) has to date signed 11 writers, including LEE Shin-ho (The Chaser, 2008), MIN Ye-ji (Late Autumn, 2010), CHO Sang-bum (Tazza: The Hidden Card) and YOON Hong-gee (Secretly Greatly). Part of the new service’s function will be to accommodate the growing demand for Korean film personnel in the booming Chinese film industry. Earlier this year, Finecut inked a 50-title deal with Chinese online distributor iQiyi.com.

One of the top distributors of Korean films around the world, Finecut’s new initiative comes on the heels of the talent agency they founded earlier this year which represents upcoming actors such as SEO Young-ju (Moebius). Per CEO SUH Young-joo, Finecut Entertainment was set up due to the lack of similar representation outfits in the Korean film industry.

Finecut’s sales catalogue encompasses arthouse names such as HONG Sangsoo and KIM Ki-duk and a partnership with Korean studio N.E.W., behind local hits Miracle in Cell No. 7 and The Attorney.
