OFFICE Receives Special Mention in Malaga

Young star KO Asung was named Best Actress at the recent 25th Fancine - Fantastic Film Festival of the University of Málaga in Spain. She earned the prize for her role in HONG Won-chan’s workplace horror-thriller Office, which also picked up a Special Mention of the Jury.

She appears in the film as an intern at a workplace that is suddenly rocked by news that one of their co-workers has murdered his whole family and is nowhere to be found. Everyday activities resume quickly until strange things start to happen at the office and the intern who everyone had previously dismissed may know more than she lets on.

The film debuted as a midnight screening at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year and has been in hot demand ever since, receiving invitations to film festivals in Busan, Stockholm and Ljubljana, as well as many genre events including Fantasia, Fantastic Fest, Sitges and Neuchatel.

KO broke out as a young girl when she starred in BONG Joon-ho’s The Host (2006) and later teamed with the revered auteur on his English-language debut Snowpiercer (2013). Most recently she appeared in HONG Sang-soo’s Right Now, Wrong Then and the high concept melodrama The Beauty Inside. KO featured in Office alongside PARK Sung-woong, KIM Eui-sung, BAE Sung-woo and RYU Hyun-kyung.

Also screening in Fancine this year, though not in competition, was BONG Man-dae’s erotic thriller Trap, which premiered at the Jeonju International Film Festival back in April.
