The 19th SIWFF Opens on June 1st

Under the Theme of Women’s Past, Present and Future
 

The 19th edition of SEOUL International Women’s Film Festival (SIWFF) will be held at the MEGABOX Sinchon from June 1st to 7th. Under the theme of ‘Women’s Past, Present and Future’, the festival unveiled its opening day and the official poster which was designed by installation artist YANG Hae-gue. 

This year’s SIWFF will present various programs that explore women’s past, present and future. The retrospective, Feminist Film Classic looks back into the great past of women films while the New Currents presents recent trend of women films in the world. Women are the Future: Women, Science & Sci-fi with recent hot issues looks in the future. 

In addition, SIWFF has screening programs like Queer Rainbow and various competitions which look for talented women filmmakers, such as Pitch & Catch, Asian Short Film & Video Competition and I-Teens. 

Founded in 1997, SIWFF has focused on women filmmakers and their films leading film industry in the world as well as in Korea. It also has served as a hub of women films’ network as many people are interested in feminism these days. Meanwhile, SIWFF has discovered outstanding directors like LEE Soo-yeon (Bluebeard), YOON Ga-eun (The World of Us, 2016), LEE Kyoung-mi (The Truth Beneath, 2016), ROH Deok (The Exclusive : Beat the Devil’s Tattoo, 2015), JEONG Jae-eun (Talking Architect, 2012) and PARK Chan-ok (Paju, 2009).
