Car Chase Cop Thriller Adds YUM Jung-ah, JEON Hye-jin

Following his female-led gangster saga Coin Locker Girl (2015), director HAN Jun-hee is putting the final touches on the cast of his next project, the cop thriller Bbaengban (Korean title). Joining the previously announced KONG Hyo-jin in the lead is rising superstar RYU Jun-yeol, while the addition of YUM Jung-ah and JEON Hye-jin indicate that HAN’s work will once again be female-centric.

Bbaengban, derived from a slang Korean turn for a police unit that specializes in hit-and-runs, will focus on several police officers and their cases. Production is set to kick off in spring of 2018 and actor JO Jung-suk has also been offered a part in the film, which he is currently considering.

Shooting to stardom in recent years, RYU Jun-yeol is nearing the end of his biggest year yet, following appearances in the hit prosecutor saga The King and the political drama A Taxi Driver, the year’s most successful local title. He also appeared in the recent Silent Witness remake Heart Blackened but 2018 looks to be an even busier year for the young star, as he has already completed production for YIM Soon-rye’s drama Little Forest, the con artist drama Money and LEE Hae-young’s Drug War remake Dokjeon.

A Tale of Two Sisters (2003) actress YUM Jung-ah recently appeared in HUH Jung’s mystery-horror The Mimic while JEON Hye-jin featured in The Merciless and The Poet and the Boy this year.

Lead KONG Hyo-jin will join the project after she completes the thriller Door Lock (literal title) for director LEE Kwon, which begins production in January. KONG recently appeared in mystery drama A Single Rider and the kidnap thriller MISSING.

Director HAN’s debut Coin Locker Girl, which starred KIM Hye-soo and KIM Go-eun, debuted in the Critics’ Week sidebar of the Cannes Film Festival and welcomed 1.47 million viewers (USD 10.97 million).
