GENESIS 2.0 to Open 15th Edition on May 17

The Seoul Eco Film Festival, which used to be known as the Green Film Festival in Seoul, held a press conference in Seoul on April 24 to announce its lineup. The event will stage its 15th edition from May 17 to 23 and this year’s opening film will be the Swiss documentary Genesis 2.0 by Christian Frei and Maxim Arbugaev, which had its world premiere this January as part of the Sundance Film Festival.

The international competition for 2018 will feature nine competitors, among them seven documentaries and a pair of narrative works. Meanwhile, the Korean competition includes six documentaries, including Ecology in Concrete (2017), the well-received architecture-themed new work by JEONG Jae-eun.

This year’s festival ambassadors will be actress KIM Hyo-jin, known for IM Sang-soo’s The Taste of Money (2012) among others, and young actor KWON Yul, who appeared in LEE Joon-ik’s Anarchist from Colony (2017) and will be back in theaters next week alongside Don LEE (aka MA Dong-seok) in the arm-wrestling drama Champion. Both performers attended the press conference along with the event’s new festival director, filmmaker LEE Myung-se (Nowhere to Hide, 1999).

For their 15th edition, the festival will acknowledge national concerns over air pollution during their Green Forum, which will include a panel entitled “Even Fine Dust is Caused by Climate Change”.
