Who will be part of the new wave of talent headed for Hollywood? “After the crossover success of directors, PARK Chan-wook and BONG Joon-ho and actor LEE Byung-hun, […] here are five Korean talents to keep an eye on,” American pop culture magazine The Hollywood Reporter published on May 10th. The first person mentioned is director KIM Yong-hwa. KIM is set to team up with Marvel Universe co-creator Stan LEE to helm superhero movie Prodigal. His latest film Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds (2017) became one of the highest-grossing films in local box office history. Next on the list is director JUNG Byung-gil. His action thriller The Villainess (2017) was critically acclaimed at Cannes Film Festival last year and he is about to tackle the Gerard Butler vehicle Afterburn. Actor GANG Dong-won is introduced as “one of Asia’s most beloved stars”. GANG will make his Hollywood debut as the star of Simon West’s Tsunami LA, about a giant wave wreaking havoc on Los Angeles. He has appeared in some of Korea’s top-grossing films, including 1987: When the Day Comes (2017) and The Priests (2015). Claudia KIM, who made her Hollywood debut by playing Dr. Helen CHO in Marvel’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), is also on the list. She will next appear opposite Eddie Redmayne, Johnny Depp and Jude Law in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Lastly, Gina KIM completes the list. KIM won the Best VR Story Award at the Venice International Film Festival for her short Bloodless (2017).
