THE WITCH, I HAVE A DATE WITH SPRING and THE VANISHED Headed to Montreal

The Fantasia International Film Festival has added three Korean films in its second wave of titles, bringing the Korean count to six so far for the festival’s 22nd edition, which will take place in Montreal from July 12 to August 1. The new invites go to PARK Hoon-jung’s female-led action-drama The Witch : Part 1. The Subversion, BAEK Seung-bin’s high-concept omnibus I Have a Date with Spring and LEE Chang-hee’s mystery-thriller The Vanished.

Fantasia will play host to the international premiere of The Witch : Part 1. The Subversion, the latest film from New World (2013) director PARK. Featuring new actress KIM Da-mi as a genetically modified child who escapes her captors and starts a new life in the countryside, only to be tracked down when she takes part in a national singing competition, the film will bow in Korea on June 27.

The story of a director struggling to write his sophomore film and who imagines several apocalyptic scenarios, I Have a Date with Spring debuted earlier this year at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and features several high-profile actors, such as KANG Ha-neul (Midnight Runners, 2017) and KIM Sung-kyun (The Sheriff in Town, 2017).

A remake of Spanish film The Body, LEE’s debut work, The Vanished focuses on a murdered woman’s body that disappears from the morgue. KIM Sang-kyung (Memories of Murder, 2003) and KIM Gang-woo (The Taste of Money, 2012) go head to head as the detective in charge of the case and the young husband of the deceased woman, respectively, during a long night at the morgue.

The trio joins the three previously announced Korean titles: SHIN Dong-seok’s indie drama Last Child (2017), KANG Yun-sung’s hit crime drama THE OUTLAWS (2017) with Don LEE (aka MA Dong-seok); and Joko ANWAR’s Korean-Indonesian co-production Satan’s Slaves.
