CHO Jung-rae
, the director of the smash hit indie drama Spirits’ Homecoming (2016), is preparing to go into production on his next film, which will be made under the title Sorikkun, the Korean word for a singer in a traditional Pansori performance. The film will star KIM Min-jun, LEE Yoo-ri and KIM Dong-wan.

Set during the Joseon Era, Sorikkun will shine a light on the dying traditional musical style of Pansori, a Korean art form performed by traveling musicians, generally with a storyteller-singer and a percussionist.

Director CHO, who debuted with the drama Duresori : The Voice of the East in 2012, spent several years working on the period project Spirits’ Homecoming, a partly crowd-funded effort that focused on the experiences of comfort women during the Colonial Era. The film was an unexpected hit, becoming the most successful narrative indie film of all time with 3.59 million viewers (USD 22.5 million).

Veteran character actor KIM Min-jun has appeared in films such as the drama Top Star (2013) and the supernatural thriller RV: Resurrected Victims (2017). TV star LEE Yoo-ri will be making her grand return to the screen, as Sorikkun will mark her first feature film role since the horror film Bunshinsaba, Ouija Board in 2004. Meanwhile KIM Dong-wan is known for films such as Deranged (2012) and One Way Trip (2015).
