Superstar to Bring Legendary Board Game Rivalry to the Big Screen

YOO Ah-in has been offered a co-starring role alongside LEE Byung-hun win the upcoming Go-themed drama The Game (translated title). YOO’s representative has confirmed that he has received and is positively considering the offer to feature in this sophomore film from The Sheriff in Town (2017) director KIM Hyung-ju.

The project is based on the true story of two legendary players of Go (‘baduk’), CHO Hun-hyun and his protege and future rival LEE Chang-ho. LEE Byung-hun is on board to play CHO, a Go champion who began to mentor LEE, the part offered to YOO Ah-in, in the 1980s. As LEE mastered the game he eventually came to face off with his mentor in the 1990s.

Following his turns in the Cannes-invited BURNING (2018) and the zombie thriller #ALIVE, which was a hit on Netflix around the world this summer, YOO is well known to international viewers. His other hits include Veteran (2015), The Throne (2015) and Default (2018). He will be seen on screens later this month in the thriller Voice of Silence and is currently filming director YEON Sang-ho’s Netflix series Hellbound.

The Game will be produced by Moonlight Films, the company founded by director YOON Jong-bin, which also backed KIM Hyung-ju’s hit crime comedy The Sheriff in Town (2017). KIM had previously served as an assistant director to YOON on his 2014 period action film KUNDO: Age of the Rampant (2014).
