Global Streamer Begin Korean Film Production with Action-Thriller

Following the Cannes-invited action film The Villainess (2017), JUNG Byung-gil is returning with the action-thriller Carter and joining him in the title role will be actor JOO Won. The film will be one of the first two Netflix Original Films made for Korea, the other being PARK Hyun-jin’s Moral Sense.

JOO has signed on to play the titular role, a skilled secret agent who wakes up in a motel without his memories. Though he doesn’t know why, he suddenly finds himself involved in a dangerous chase.

Announced during a recent Netflix showcase along with Moral Sense, the project has been described as a high-octane action work, with each scene being planned as a hyper-kinetic single long take, similar to the memorable set pieces of The Villainess (2017), which saw KIM Ok-vin vengeful villainess mow her way through dozens of opponents.

JOO is best known for his TV roles, which include Good Doctor and the My Sassy Girl K-drama remake. The actor’s major film credits include action-crime film S.I.U. (2011), the romantic comedy Steal My Heart (2013) and the thriller FATAL INTUITION (2015)

Director JUNG initially debuted as a filmmaker with the stuntmen documentary Action Boys (2008) before making his commercial and narrative debut with the revenge thriller Confession of Murder (2012). He then made The Villainess (2017), which featured as a midnight screening at the Cannes Film Festival.
