As anticipated, Lunar New Year Holiday saw most audiences favor comedy films. A February 11th release, Detective K: Secret of the Lost Island has surpassed 3.15 million admissions following the holidays. Beating the record of the first Detective K series which was also released around the same time last year, the new installment became the first film of the year to surpass 3 million admissions. But a hidden player Kingsman: The Secret Service performed well despite the fact that its rating was restricted. During the holidays alone it brought in 90,000 admissions and easily took the 2nd place at the box office. Due to positive review and word of mouth, the film is currently racing fast at 2,342,779.

Released a week after Kingsman: The Secret Service is The Imitation Game, which sold 408,132 tickets from February 20th until the 22nd and climbed to the 4th place on the chart. C’est Si Bon which was anticipated to bring in more crowds during the holidays dropped to 5th place from the 3rd, with just 268,663 ticket sales.

However, the main driver of February’s box office was Ode to My Father. Even though two months have passed since its release, there are still family audiences coming to the theaters to watch the film. During the Lunar New Year Holiday, it set a new record. On Friday the 20th, it beat the record made by Avatar (2009) which was at 13,624,328 and became the 2nd highest scoring film in the history of Korean cinema. By Sunday the 22nd, the 68th day since the release, Ode to My Father was screening in 792 screens with a total of 14,078,224 admissions.
