The Korean Film Council (KOFIC, Chairman Han Sang-jun) will host the "2026 AI Film Showcase" at the Seoul Film Center on Wednesday, October 21, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The event carries forward to Seoul the achievements of the "2026 KOFIC AI Showcase," held October 9–11 during the 31st Busan International Film Festival. Following Busan, where AI filmmaking was explored across technology, creation, and education, the Seoul edition will screen works produced through AI production training programs of major film and media institutions and share the process behind each work's completion.
The showcase will screen AI films produced through the AI film education programs of four institutions: the Korean Academy of Film Arts (KAFA), the Seoul Film Center, the Busan Film Commission, and the Busan Cinema Center. Audiences will see, in turn, Origin and Gongga from KAFA's KAFA+ Advanced Filmmaking Program, three works from the Seoul Film Center's AI education program, four works from the Busan Film Commission's AI Artist Development Program, and three works from the Busan Cinema Center's training courses.
The earlier "2026 KOFIC AI Showcase" in Busan drew approximately 250 attendees over three days, confirming interest in AI technology and in creative and educational programs. Held under the slogan "The Evolution of Creativity: New Stories Written with AI," the event presented four invited works from Korea, China, and Japan, including an AI animation by Japanese studio Ichawon; MBC C&I's CapCut Special and 11 AI Content Lab preview works; and eight works from the Busan Film Commission's AI Artist Development Program and the AMCA Global OTT Program.
In particular, KAFA presented nine outstanding works from its KAFA+ Specialized Course (AI Technology Training) along with three Advanced Filmmaking Program works, Mago, Gongga, and Origin, highlighting the results of its efforts as a professional film education institution to turn AI technology into creative capability. Dexter Studios and KT Studio Genie also demonstrated how AI can be integrated into actual commercial film production pipelines, while creators from Korea, China, and Japan shared their experiences making AI films and presented a range of works, shedding light on AI's potential in filmmaking and the expanding scope of creativity.
Through this Seoul showcase following Busan, KOFIC plans to share KAFA's accumulated experience in advanced filmmaking education with various institutions and broaden the foundation for cooperation in filmmaker retraining and public film education in the AI era.
"It is important not to stop at simply learning new technology, but to think about how to expand creators' imagination and open up new creative opportunities for filmmakers," said Joh Geun-shik, Dean of KAFA. "I hope this will be an occasion to carry the discussion that began in Busan forward in Seoul through actual works."
The showcase will take place at Screen II of the Seoul Film Center (38 Mareunnae-ro, Jung-gu, Seoul) and is free of charge for filmmakers and aspiring filmmakers. Details on the program and attendance are available on the Seoul Film Center website (www.seoulfilmcenter.com).
