The Korean Film Council (KOFIC) is going to hold ‘Korean Film Night’ at the 69th Venice International Film Festival. The purpose of the event is to cheer for KIM Ki-duk and his film Pieta, which was nominated in the fest's official international competition section 'Venezia 69,' as well as JEON Kyu-hwan and his film The Weight, which is the first Korean film ever to be featured in the sidebar ‘Venice Days’ program.

 

Chairman KIM Eui-suk will participate in the event, meeting foreign press members, buyers and other figures working with renowned international film festivals and film markets who will be visiting Venice. TAE Eun-jeong of KOFIC's Global Marketing Team explained, “This event will provide a place for dialogue about Korean film, introduce the Korean films invited to this year's festival to participatjng cineastes and hopefully increase the possibility that Pieta can win a prize as well as generally increase awareness about the film.”

 

It has been seven years since a Korean film was invited to the official international competition section of the Venice International Film Festival. In 2004, KIM Ki-duk won the Best Director Award with 3-Iron at the festival.  

 

‘Korean Film Night’ at the 69th Venice Film Festival will take place at the Excelsior Hotel from 9 to 11pm on Wednesday September 5th.
