MOURNING GRAVE to Hit Cambodia Screens on January 2nd

Korean Films Galore in Cambodia

OH In-chun’s horror flick Mourning Grave will be released in Cambodia nationwide on January 2nd. Mourning Grave is about a young man with an ability to see ghosts who meets a girl with a forgotten past. As they build their friendship, they discover the mystery behind a masked ghost. With his recent role in the popular drama series Misaeng, lead actor KANG Ha-neul has of late been expanding his fan base. KIM So-eun plays the ghost girl alongside him. Mourning Grave is director OH’s first commercial film. He previously received an award at the Seoul International Short Film Festival in 2011. He has been directing horror films throughout his career and continues to be recognized following his Méliès d'Argent from the Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival this year and his invitation to the 18th Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival, as the only Korean commercial film in the program.

On the other hand, the 8th Korean Film Festival in Cambodia was held from the 6th of December in Phnom Penh, organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Kingdom of Cambodia. The five day event programmed A Werewolf Boy (2012), Masquerade (2012), The Host (2006), Boomerang Family and Set Me Free. Including the recent sale to Cambodia of My Love, My Bride with JO Jung-suk and SHIN Min-a, Korean films appear to be growing in popularity in Cambodia. Up until now, Cambodia has shown a firm grasp on Korean dramas and K-pop music, but with the release of Mourning Grave, OH hopes “to show Cambodian audiences what Korean films are about”. Mourning Grave had its domestic release in July this year, and collected 481,707 admissions in total.
