The 19th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, Asia’s largest genre film fest, announced its 2015 lineup with French director Antoine BARDOU-JACQUET’s Moonwalkers as the opening screener. Closing the festival is local director KIM Hwi’s The Chosen: Forbidden Cave, which will have its world premiere at the festival. Festival organizers said The Chosen... is a sensually directed Korean horror based on the concepts of traditional shamanism. 

 

The festival announced a lineup of 235 films from 45 countries among which 64 are world premieres. The jury members for the competition sections have not been announced as of today.

 

BiFan will dedicate focus sections to Japan’s SONO Sion, Korean indie films, Mexican genre cinema and classic Sci-Fi films, through sections entitled “I’m (not) Sono Sion,” “K-indie (Korean Independent) Genre Strikes!” “Mexico Genre Film Showcase at BiFan” and “BiFan Classic ‘Sci-Fi: So Far So Close.’” This year’s retrospective section will be dedicated to Hong Kong actor Simon YAM. The Korean Academy of Film Arts also presents 3D projects in “KAFA+ Next D ‘3D, Once Again.’”

 

Outside the Korean indie showcase and the KAFA 3D program, Korean films this year will include HAN Jun-hee’s Cannes title Coin Locker Girl, JEON Kyu Hwan’s R-rated action thriller Angry Painter: Director’s Cut and KIM Yong Woon’s directorial debut horror movie Malice .

 

BiFan’s four-day industry sidebar Network of Asian Fantastic Films will highlight five Chinese genre films through its China focus program.

 

Now in its 19th year, the BiFan will commence on July 16 for 11 days.
