Yubari Fantastic Fest Books 8 from Korea

Competition Slot for IT’S REALLY KIND OF YOU
 
 
Japan’s top genre cinema event, the Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival, returns for its 26th edition next month on the 25th, and with it, eight new Korean films, among them a trio of features and five shorts, will screen. The festival will run until February 29th.
 
The only Korean film invited to the official competition section this year is SO Jae-ick’s debut feature It’s Really Kind of You, which premiered last year at the Montreal World Film Festival. SO previously made the short film No Charge Airline Ticket, which was screened at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BiFan) in 2009. Yubari will also host special screenings of KIM Ki-duk’s 21st film Stop, a co-production with Japan that had its debut at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival last year, and JEON Kyu-hwan’s Angry Painter - Director's Cut, a co-production with Estonia starring YU Jun-sang which bowed at BiFan last year.
 
The International Short Film Competition will include JUNG Seung-hee’s animation Fabric Cosmos, KIM Na-kyung’s I Do Need To Go To Study Abroad Right Now!, GWON Eun-ji’s The Gaze, YOO Jae-hyun’s The Photographers and MIN Yong-keun’s Dancing Cat.
 
In previous editions, KWAK Jae-yong’s My Sassy Girl (2001), KIM Ji-hoon’s Mokpo, Gangster’s Paradise (2004), PARK Heung-sik’s My Mother, The Mermaid (2004), KIM Dai-seung’s Blood Rain (2005) and OH Young-doo’s Invasion of Alien Bikini (2011) have all been recipients of Yubari’s Grand Prize.
