2016 Jeonju Cinema Project Wrap Productions
Will Premiere at 17th JIFF in April
All three of this year’s Jeonju Cinema Project wrapped their productions in early February and are currently in post-production as they aim to bow during the upcoming 17th edition of the Jeonju International Film Festival (JIFF), which will get underway on April 28th.
Short filmmaker CHO Jae-min (Sign, 2013; Bubble Art, 2013) shot his feature debut A Snow Day in South Gyeongsang-do province over 25 shooting days, from January 1st until February 3rd. Ashamed (2011) director KIM Soo-hyun shot his fourth film Great Patrioteers around various Seoul locations such as Tapgol Park and Noryangjin during January’s blustery cold snap, wrapping 18 shooting days on February 4th, with the participation of cinematographer CHO Yong-kyu, who has worked with LEE Chang-dong, RYOO Seung-wan and KIM Tae-yong in the past.
Meanwhile in Argentina, filming took place for The Decent in Buenos Aires, including at a nudist club. The film marks the sophomore outing for Lukas Valenta Rinner, who picked up the Special Jury Prize for his debut Parabellum in Jeonju last year, and finished its 25 days of production on February 14th.
Members of JIFF’s Executive Committee visited the shooting sites in Korea to support cast and crew while they communicated closely with the team in Argentina. Since switching to feature-length films in 2014, the Jeonju Cinema Project has yielded titles such as SHIN Yeon-shick’s The Avian Kind, PARK Jung-bum’s Alive and Gyorgy Palfi’s Free Fall.
