Special Jury Prize for BEETHOVEN MEDLEY in Yubari

This year’s edition of the Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival came to a close on March 6th and handed out a pair of prizes to Korean projects. In the Fantastic Off-Theater Competition, LIM Cheol-min’s Beethoven Medley earned the Special Jury Prize, while KIM Hyo-jeong’s M.boy received the Grand Prix from the International Short Film Competition.

Beethoven Medley is the feature debut of director LIM, who previously worked as an editor and also made the short film Moonlight Sonata, which screened at Yubari in 2012. The film follows a music composer and playboy staying in a countryside motel and the woman who comes between them.

KIM’s M.boy screened at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival last year and also picked up both the Extreme Nightmare Grand Prize and B TV Audience Award from the Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival.

Other Korean films that screened in Yubari this year included NA Hong-jin’s THE WAILING, featured in the Special Invitation section. CHUNG Geun-woong’s debut film Gravity of Acting screened in Yubari Choice while LIM Jin-seung’s second film OUTDOOR : BEGINS and Angel Is Dead, the latest work by Yubari veteran NO Zin-soo were both part of Yubari’s special programs.

The international jury at Yubari this year included CHOI Yong-bae, the head of the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival.
