Macao Takes A DAY and THE OUTLAWS for Flying Daggers

OKJA Booked for Gala Presentation at 2nd IFFAM

The International Film Festival and Awards Macao (IFFAM), which kicks off its second edition on December 8th, will feature three films from Korea. JO Seon-ho’s A Day and KANG Yun-sung’s THE OUTLAWS, both debut films, will screen in IFFAM’s ‘Flying Daggers’ section, while BONG Joon-ho’s Netlfix-backed Okja is invited as a gala presentation.

JO’s high concept, time slip, drama-thriller A Day debuted in theaters in June. It centers around a doctor who witnesses his daughter’s death in a car crash only to become stuck in the same time loop, which he relives with a paramedic in the same predicament. The film stars KIM Myung-min (Pandora, 2016) and BYUN Yo-han (Socialphobia, 2015).

One of this year’s Chuseok holiday releases, THE OUTLAWS was an unexpected hit, gathering almost seven million viewers during its ongoing theatrical run. TRAIN TO BUSAN’s Don LEE (aka MA Dong-seok) stars as a gruff cop going head-to-head with a violent Chinese-Korean gangster played by YOON Kye-sang (Poongsan, 2011).

BONG’s Okja was his first film to screen in the main competition section of the Cannes Film Festival this year. The fantasy eco-thriller features newcomer AHN Seo-hyun as a country girl tracking down her genetically modified super-pig. The international cast also features Tilda Swinton, Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano and Steven YEUN.

As previously reported, IM Sang-soo’s project Dead in the Lake will also take part in this year’s IFFAM Project Market. The festival is scheduled to run until December 14th.
