KANG Yun-sung tapped for LONG LIVE THE KING

THE OUTLAWS Director to Helm Adaptation of Popular Webtoon



Director KANG Yun-sung’s follow up to his 2017 hit THE OUTLAWS will be Long Live the King.

On January 5, JANG Won-seok, CEO of film production company BA Entertainment, announced that he has offered KANG the opportunity to direct the cinematic adaptation of the popular webtoon of the same name.

Created by artist Willow Forest(translated), Long Live the King tells the story of a gang boss based in the southwestern coastal city of Mokpo who is running for election to become a politician. The series completed its run with 151 episodes. 

The film will be co-produced by BA Entertainment and Film Monster. BA Entertainment served as the production company for THE OUTLAWS and was also responsible for recent hits MEMOIR OF A MURDERER and Forgotten

KANG’s feature film debut, THE OUTLAWS went on to become one of the biggest hits of 2017, attracting 6.8 million viewers at the box office nationwide. The film also earned KANG a nomination for the Best New Director category at the 38th Blue Dragon Film Awards and a win in the same category at the 37th Korean Association of Film Critics Awards.

Long Live the King is scheduled to begin production in Mokpo in the first half of 2018.
