1987 Comes Out on Top at Blue Dragon Awards
KIM Yun-seok and HAN Ji-min Go Home with Best Acting Prizes
JANG Joon-hwan’s political drama 1987: When the Day Comes (2017) topped the 39th edition of the Blue Dragon Film Awards, which took place in Seoul on November 23 during a ceremony hosted by stars KIM Hye-soo and YOO Yeon-seok. Other top prizes went to YOON Jong-bin, who earned Best Director for his espionage yarn The Spy Gone North, KIM Yun-seok of 1987: When the Day Comes who won Best Actor, and Miss Baek’s HAN Ji-min, who came away with Best Actress.
1987: When the Day Comes, which also picked up the Best Cinematography and Lighting Award, was one of two films to walk away with three prizes during the night. The other was KIM Yong-hwa’s Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds (2017). The fantasy epic won Best Supporting Actress for KIM Hyang-gi, the Technical Award and the Audience Choice Award for Most Popular Film.
Two films won a brace of prizes, as The Spy Gone North also won Best Art Direction and LEE Hae-young’s Believer won Best Supporting Actor for the final performance of the late KIM Joo-hyuk and for Best Music. Elsewhere, NAM Joo-hyuk took Best New Actor for The Great Battle, KIM Da-mi earned Best New Actress for The Witch : Part 1. The Subversion, JEON Go-woon was given Best New Director for Microhabitat, Dark Figure of Crime walked away with Best Screenplay, and Best Editing went to GONJIAM: Haunted Asylum.
Lastly, this year’s quartet of Popular Star Awards went to JU Ji-hoon, KIM Hyang-gi, KIM Young-kwang and JIN Seo-yeon.
