Local Release Calendar Aims to Ramp up Next Month
A new cluster of Covid-19 cases in Central Seoul has sparked fears of a second wave of infections. Local distributors have been left with no choice but to delay releases of films that had been scheduled for release in late May.
Among those is the mystery-thriller Intruder, starring SONG Ji-hyo and GIM Mu-yeol, which was set to open on May 21, thus becoming the first release of a major local film since late February. Now the film, which was directed by SOHN Won-pyung and is being distributed by Acemaker Movieworks, is scheduled to bow on June 4.
The last major local release to find its way into theaters was the thriller BEASTS CLAWING AT STRAWS, which opened on February 19 but quickly had its box office prospects cut short amid the first major wave of Covid-19 infections.
