14th Network of Asian Fantastic Film to Welcome 40 Projects

BiFan’s Project Market Welcomes Series for First Time

The Network of Asian Fantastic Films (NAFF) will return this summer for its 14th edition, which will take place during the 25th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BiFan). The event will once again be a virtual event and will feature 40 projects from 29 countries taking part in pitch meetings between July 8 and 13.

The project lineup, which includes 19 titles in the signature IT Project competition, 11 in Project Spotlight: Korea, 6 Works in Progress, a pair of Nordic Genre Invasion projects, and one each for Blood Window and Fantastic 7, was expanded from last year’s 30 projects. For the first time, the market will include episodic projects to reflect the changing landscape of the global OTT landscape.

Among the familiar names of the project selections are Filipino filmmakers Khan De La Cruz and Mikhail Red, the Laos-based American filmmaker Mattie Do, US filmmaker Bill Watterson and the Korean filmmaker Jang Woojin (Winter’s Night, 2018). The Fantastic 7 project, which will also take part in Cannes’ Marche du Film, will be revealed at a later date.

Launched in 2008, NAFF is the world’s first exclusive genre project market and has been a stepping stone for 65 feature films that have been completed to date, including Yeon Sangho’s The King of Pigs (2011), Kim Byungwoo’s The Terror, LIVE (2013), the Taiwanese romantic hit Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow? and the Indonesian action hit The Raid 2: Berandal.
