BELIEVER Returns to Top 5 with Extended Cut
Admissions were more or less steady at 2.4 million while US films stretched their market share advantage to 79%. But the tables are about to turn as the coming weeks and months should see Korean content clinch several major weekend victories.
Disney took the third straight first place win in a row, and eight of the year, as their Pixar title The Incredibles 2 posted a commanding first place finish. The animation put up 1.12 million tickets (USD 8.57 million) during its opening weekend and 1.36 million spectators (USD 10.34 million) in total over its first five days in theaters.
Fellow Disney title Ant-Man and the Wasp dipped 54% in its third week with another 492,000 entries (USD 3.87 million) added to the tank to bring its total to an impressive 5.02 million admission (USD 40.4 million).
Demonstrating remarkable resilience in its fourth weekend was local mystery-action
The Witch : Part 1. The Subversion, which ebbed just 17% as it added another 321,000 viewers (USD 2.53 million) to make it just the fourth local film of the year to pass the 3 million admissions (USD 22.83 million) mark.
Down two spots and 65% was the Dwayne Johnson vehicle Skyscraper which could only muster 165,000 sales (USD 1.29 million) during its second frame, raising its total to 952,000 entries (USD 7.29 million).
Following its stellar original theatrical run in May, a new version of
LEE Hae-young’s
Drug War entered the market with additional footage.
Believer: Extended Cut kicked off with 77,000 spectators (USD 419,000) and 112,000 viewers (USD 609,000) since Wednesday, which is on top of the initial five million viewers run.
The summer box office season is set to enter its highest gear next week with the entry of two of the year’s most eagerly anticipated blockbusters going head-to-head. Tom Cruise is leading the charts with
Mission: Impossible - Fallout but
KIM Jee-woon’s SF action-thriller
ILLANG : THE WOLF BRIGADE is catching up. Both should post huge numbers in their opening frames.
