The business experienced a post-Lunar New Year holiday drop as sales slowed just over 30% to 384,000 admissions. Meanwhile, 2021 welcomed its first domestic chart-topper, which allowed the local market share to double to 42%.

Featuring KIM Young-kwang and LEE Sun-bin, the action-comedy Mission: Possible debuted in pole position with 130,000 sales (USD 1.11 million) over the weekend, with 181,000 seats (USD 1.5 million) filled since its Wednesday kick-off.

After four weeks on the top of the charts, the Pixar hit Soul finally had to settle for second place after slowing 52%. The animated film added 102,000 viewers (USD 902,000), boosting its total to an impressive 1.75 million entries (USD 14.67 million).

Fellow animated hit Demon Slayer the Movie: Mugen Train was down just 25% as it sold another 64,000 tickets (USD 599,000). The Japanese anime has now reached 750,000 admissions (USD 6.5 million).

Last week’s major local holiday release, the romantic drama New Year Blues, crashed a hefty 86% in its sophomore frame, during which it added 12,000 spectators (USD 104,000). The ensemble film has to date sold 164,000 tickets (USD 1.37 million).

Coming in fifth place was the rerelease of the fantasy sequel Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire which slowed 45% as it bought in another 11,000 viewers (USD 95,000). This lifted the film’s lifetime haul to 3.49 million admissions (USD 20 million).

Though not set to open until next week, the Hollywood sci-fi action film Chaos Walking, featuring Tom HOLLAND and Daisy RIDLEY, is currently topping the reservations charts.
