In the 4th week of April 2022, the fantasy blockbuster Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore remained at the top of the weekend box office for two consecutive weeks. Released on April 13, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore recorded 186,844 viewers with sales of USD 1.6 million in its second weekend, accounting for 41.9% of the weekend's total sales. The total number of moviegoers in the second week of its release is 769,000 with sales of USD 6.5 million in total, and it is expected to attract ‘1 million’ viewers among the films released in 2022 so far.
2nd place of the week is TOXIC, a film based on the humidifier disinfectants disaster case that happened in Korea. Released on April 22, TOXIC attracted 64,844 viewers over the weekend, recording sales of USD 516,197 (Accounting for 13.3% of the weekend’s total sales). The total number of audience in its opening week is 70,184.
Directed by Cho Yongsun and starring actors Kim Sangkyung, Lee Sunbin, Yun Gyeongho, and Seo Younghee,TOXIC features a thriller about a doctor who is investigating a disease that killed his wife and son. Since the film is based on a true social issue that has not been compensated for the damage, it causes the interest of moviegoers.
3rd place at the box office this week is also a new Korean film. Anchor, directed by Jung Jiyeon and starring Chun Woohee, Shin Hakyun, and Lee Hyeyoung, is ranked 3rd with 61,454 viewers during the weekend. Released on April 20, Anchor is a mystery thriller depicting a bizarre incident happening to a broadcasting station anchor (Chun Woohee) who receives a mysterious phone call. Its total number of the audience so far is over 100,000.
4th place is The Lost City, a Hollywood comedy-adventure released on April 20. It is a traditional comic romance adventure starring Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum, Daniel Radcliffe, and Brad Pitt. The number of moviegoers on its first weekend is 39,696.
Although it was the first weekend after lifting the theater distance rules on April 18, the number of weekend moviegoers recorded about 456,000, slightly down from 484,000 compared to the previous week.
