Well-made Historical Thriller, The Night Owl, Topped on Its Release Weekend


 

The Night Owl, a costume drama acclaimed as a ‘well-made thriller, topped the box office on the weekend of its release. According to the Korean Box Office Information System (KOBIS) of the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), from November 25 to 27, The Night Owl recorded 636,329 audiences and 55.8% of sales over the weekend, topping at the box office. After being released on November 23, the total number of audiences for The Night Owl is 817,825 so far. 

 

The Night Owl is a historical thriller about an acupuncturist suffering from day blindness, witnessing the death of Crown Prince Sohyun. Ryu Junyeol plays the role of the blind acupuncturist, and Yoo Haijin plays the king obsessed with power. The two actors performed together in 3 films, including A Taxi Driver, The Battle: Roar to Victory, and The Night Owl, which are all successful at the box office, continuing the filmography of the ‘Box-office Duo.’ 

 

2nd place is Decibel, a sound thriller, starring Kim Raewon and Lee Jongsuk. The number of weekend audiences was 156,470 with sales of 13.7%, keeping 2nd place in the weekend box office following the last week. 3rd place is Marvel's Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which added 143,243 viewers over the weekend, surpassing 2 million audiences in total. 

 

4th place is Ditto, a romance film, which revived the emotions of the 1990s to the 2020s. Ditto is a remake of Korea's iconic romance film released in 2000 for the first time in 22 years. Yeo Jingu and Cho Yihyun played the roles of college students in the 1990s and 2020s, respectively, who communicated with mysterious radios. In the original version of Ditto, Kim Haneul was a college student in the 1970s and Yoo Jitae in the 1990s.
