Gender : Female

Nationality : South Korea

Born in 1980, Kim Jaehwa has always felt naturally attracted to acting since most of her family was working in the domain of arts. She studied acting at Anyang Arts High School and later at Chung-ang University. She debuted on stage in 1999, before participating in her first musical in 2002 and even in a Korean traditional opera in 2004. After several years performing with the troupe Modl Theatre, she moved to the big screen in 2009 with a small role in <Harmony>. She could be seen the following year in Na Hongjin’s <The Yellow Sea> (2010). She was first noticed by the public when she played a Chinese table tennis athlete competing against a unified Korean team in <As One> (2012). Her performance was so convincing that many thought that Kim was actually a Chinese actress. She continued to receive supporting parts for the rest of the decade, with notable contributions including <Traffickers> (2012), <The Royal Tailor> (2014), <Salut d’Amour> (2014) and the indie favorite <Microhabitat> (2017). In 2018, she received the Indie Star Award from the Seoul Independent Film Festival for her participation in the short <Down> (2018) from Lee Woosoo. In 2021, she reached a new step in her career as she joined the cast of two major blockbusters, Ryoo Seungwan’s <Escape from Mogadishu> (2021) and Kim Jihoon’s <Sinkhole> (2021).
