Born in 1987, CHUN Woo-Hee started acting when she joined the drama club of her high school. After graduation, she decided to follow her calling and went to Kyonggi University to study acting. Although she had already been given minor roles in <Love, So Divine> (2004) and <Herb> (2006), she first drew attention through a supporting role in BONG Joon-ho’s <Mother> (2009). Her short yet intense performance as the glue-addicted student in the 2011 sensational hit <Sunny> brought her to radar of many filmmakers and critics alike. Although she had originally auditioned for one of the lead roles, she was cast in that supporting role after expressing her stronger interest for that character. CHUN’s big break came in 2013, when she took on her first leading role in LEE Su-jin’s indie drama <HAN Gong-ju> (2013). Following a sensational response at the Busan International Film Festival and a trove of top prizes from Marrakesh, Rotterdam and Fribourg, among others, the film instantly announced CHUN as one of Korea’s hottest new stars. Her role as a teen with a dark past earned her Best Actress prizes from the Blue Dragon Awards, the Korean Association of Film Critics and the Wildflower Film Awards. Around the same time as <HAN Gong-ju>, she played supporting roles in <Thread of Lies> (2013) and <Cart> (2014) but subsequently the big roles came flowing in, such as post-Korean War rural mystery <The Piper> (2014) and NA Hong-jin’s critically praised third film <THE WAILING> (2016). After a collaboration with LEE Yoon-ki on the indie drama <Oneday> (2017), she reunited with LEE Su-jin for the director’s sophomore film, <Idol> (2018). In 2019, she headlined another highly anticipated indie film, <Vertigo>, from <Love Fiction> director JEON Kye-soo.
