Korean Production House to Remake French Thriller

Mirovision Inc., the production house behind IM Sang-soo’s The Housemaid (2010) as well as a sales agent for Korean titles overseas, has picked up the Korean-language remake rights to the French thriller The Big Picture.

Directed by Eric Lartigau and produced by EuropaCorp in 2010, The Big Picture is a thriller based on a 1997 book by Douglas Kennedy which has been a major bestseller in Korea since its publication a decade ago. Featuring Romain Doris, Marina Fois and Catherine Deneuve, the tale takes place in Paris, and features a big shot lawyer who kills his wife’s lover before assuming his identity.

The project is currently in the writing stage and production is aiming for a fourth quarter start next year. In addition to The Housemaid, which screened in competition at the Cannes Film Festival, Mirovision has also produced the Korean thriller Les Formidables (2006) and the drama Sunshine (2015). Some of the recent titles that Mirovision has shopped overseas as a sales agent include Canola, My New Sassy Girl and How to Break Up With My Cat.

Last year, Mirovision also announced a project based on the life of Korean painter LEE Jung-seob, with YIM Soon-rye, who is currently filming the drama Little Forest with KIM Tae-ri, attached as director.
