The 41st edition of the Grand Bell (Daejong) Awards, Korea's oldest film awards ceremony, wrapped up on June 4 with a Best Picture award presented to KIM Ki-duk's Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring. This comes after the film won Best Picture at the rival Blue Dragon (Cheongryeong) Awards held last December. The Korea-German co-production beat out Cannes Grand Prix winner Old Boy, which nonetheless collected five awards for directing (PARK Chan-wook), lead actor (CHOI Min-shik), musical score, lighting, and editing. Other films to win major awards include Cinema Service's blockbuster Silmido with four awards including the Special Jury Prize; KANG Jae-gyu's Tae Guk Gi with three awards including Best Cinematography; A Good Lawyer's Wife with a Best Actress award for MOON So-ri; and romantic comedy My Little Bride with Best New Actor and Actress awards for its young leads MOON Geun-young and KIM Rae-won. Also, in a mark of the increasing popularity of Korean cinema overseas, over 200 fans from Japan attended the ceremony at Sejong Performing Arts Center in downtown Seoul.
