Gender : Male

Nationality : South Korea

Following an early gig as a sound man on 1994’s <Sudden Change>, KIM Hak-soon began his career as a short filmmaker with <Dandelion> in 2001. His feature debut came in 2003 with >A Man Watching Video> (aka <Rewind>). Based on a book of the same name, KIM’s debut featured JANG Hyun-sung as a lawyer who gives up his career to run a video shop and wiles his days away chatting with customers until a secret admirer begins to leave him messages in the return box. The film was widely screened abroad, earning berths at the Edinburgh, Cairo, Singapore, and Bratislava International Film Festivals, to name but a few. It also won the Asian New Talent award from the Shanghai International Film Festival. Stepping back from the director’s chair, in 2007 he produced both the short <White Night> and the documentary <Daughter of Chorolque>. He returned to directing with the major war drama <Northern Limit Line>. Distributed by Next Entertainment World (NEW), the film featured JIN Goo, LEE Hyun-woo and GIM Mu-yeol as South Korean may soldiers who fight for their country in the true life Second Battle of Yeonpyeong of 2002, during which a skirmish took place on the eve of the World Cup final when a North Korean patrol boat entered into South Korean waters and conducted a surprise attack.
