Gender : Male

Nationality : South Korea

JOO Kyung-jung set his foot in the Korean filmmaking industry as a producer of <Song of Rebirth>, a film about Gwangju People’s Uprising of 1980, a turning point in the history of democratization movement in South Korea. His directorial debut came with < A Little Monk>(2002), for whose release the director had to overcome many setbacks, such as a shortage in funding. Based on a movie script written in the 1940s, <A Little Monk> follows the lives of a child monk who wonders when his mother would come back for him, a teenage monk going through puberty, and an old monk who take care of them on the backdrop of Korea’s rural scenery. After a long hiatus, JOO returns to directing with <Natalie>(2010), the first digital 3D movie in Korean filmmaking history. A story of a destructive love of an artist and his muse of inspiration, the movie generated avid media interest with its explicit bed scenes. JOO’s next project is another 3D movie based on the best-selling novel <Song of Dreams>.
