Gender : Male

Nationality : South Korea

WON Shin-yun, born in 1969, started his career as a stuntman before moving to filmmaking, his notable credits including <No. 3> (1997) and <Whispering Corridors> (1998). His first film as a director was a short film he shot with a camera he bought with the money earned through stunt jobs. He made his feature debut in 2005 with <The Wig>, a horror movie. WON enjoyed critical acclaim with his second feature, <A Bloody Aria> (2006), for its unique combination of comedy, crime suspense, and horror. His third feature, <7 Days> (2007), gave him commercial success against all odds. Back then in Korea, thrillers wouldn’t attract much attention in the movie market, but <7 Days> (2007), which starred KIM Yun-jin of the popular US TV series <Lost>, along with NA Hong-jin’s <The Chaser> (2008), opened a floodgate of horror flicks. WON then attempted to set up a live action version of the popular local animation Robot Taekwon V but he eventually moved on to other projects following difficulty securing financing. One of them was the spy action thriller <The Suspect> (2013), which was released on Christmas Eve in 2013. Noted for its strong action set pieces and resemblance to Hollywood’s Bourne spy franchise, the film was a hit with 4.1 million tickets sold. With <MEMOIR OF A MURDERER> (2016), he took up the challenge of adapting to film KIM Young-ha’s bestselling novel of the same name, known for making great use of its diary format to portray the protagonist’s fight against Alzheimer’s. Led by SUL Kyung-gu, the thriller film topped the box office in its release week and gathered 2.6 million viewers.
