Gender : Male

Nationality : South Korea

LEE Do-yun’s first steps in the film industry came in 2004, when he worked as an assistant director on LEE Jung-chul’s drama <A Family>. In 2006, he found himself wearing a few hats, as he once again served as an assistant director on the BONG Tae-gyu comedy vehicle <See You After School>, featured in a small role in the film <Never Belongs to Me> and wrote and directed the short film <We Trippers>, which was invited to screen at the Busan Asian Short Film Festival. He continued directing, delivering the short <Neighbor> in 2007, which was featured at the Mise-en-scene Short Film Festival and proceeded to return to the commercial realm as an assistant director once more on the family film sequel <Hearty Paws 2> (2010). After toiling away in various capacities throughout the industry for a decade, LEE finally got his chance to direct his feature debut in 2014, with the hard-boiled drama-thriller <Confession>. Owing to a glut of noirish films released around the same time, and also partly to being scheduled shortly after the Sewol Incident, the film fared poorly at the box office. Yet critics embraced it for its command of technique and strong performances from JU Ji-hoon and LEE Kwang-soo. <Confession> drew a second breath later in the year when it was invited to take part in the Toronto International Film Festival, the first of many festival invitations.
