Choi Wooshik, born in Korea in 1990, immigrated with his family to Canada when he was just a child. In 2011, while attending the Simon Fraser University, one of the most renowned universities in Canada, he decided to come back to Korea to pursue an acting career. After his acting debut with the period series <The Duo> (2011), he went into acting full-time with credits ranging from traditional drama series to sitcoms, most notable among them <Rooftop Prince> (2012) and <Special Affairs Team TEN> (2011-2013). His first film role came in 2013 with the spy action comedy <Secretly Greatly> (2013), and soon after he received top billing in the indie drama <Set Me Free> (2014), with the latter winning him Actor of the Year at the Busan International Film Festival. The work that first brought him to international recognition was the hit blockbuster zombie film <TRAIN TO BUSAN> (2016), soon followed by the 2017 Netflix film <Okja> from famed director Bong Joonho. Choi then worked with another director renowned at home and abroad for his genre films, Park Hoonjung, on the supernatural action film <The Witch : Part 1. The Subversion> (2018), reinventing himself as a villain character. In 2019, Choi reunited with Bong to great effect as he starred alongside Song Kangho in Cannes’ Palme d’Or and Academy Award Best Picture winner <PARASITE> and became one of the recipients of the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. The film <Time to Hunt>, which he had filmed before <PARASITE>, benefited from his newfound international fame when it released on Netflix in 2020. He was back on the big screen in early 2022, playing an inflexible new cop who has to team up with a squad chief who lives a suspiciously luxurious lifestyle in <The Policeman’s Lineage> (2021).
